DON'T BE AFRAID
This powerful message takes us into the heart of John chapter 6, where the disciples find themselves battling a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee. What makes this story so compelling is that these weren't novices—they were professional fishermen doing exactly what Jesus told them to do. Yet for six to nine hours, they struggled against gale-force winds, making only half the journey they should have completed in two to three hours. The profound truth here is that obedience to God's direction doesn't guarantee smooth sailing. Sometimes we find ourselves in the middle of storms precisely because we followed His leading. The disciples didn't pray or call out, yet Jesus came walking on the water toward them anyway, declaring 'I am here'—the same divine name God revealed to Moses. This wasn't just Jesus announcing His location; it was a declaration of His identity as the great I AM. The moment they invited Him into their boat, they immediately arrived at their destination. What they couldn't accomplish through hours of skilled labor, God accomplished in an instant through His presence. The message challenges us to examine where our focus lies: are we fixated on the storm or focused on the Savior? Fear loses its grip when we recognize that nothing we face has authority over Jesus, and His presence produces peace even in the most fearful places.
